Lovers of German wine, or really just lovers of wine, will be psyched to learn that our annual allocation of rieslings from the legendary Mosel producer Hofgut Falkenstein have arrived on our shelves, just in time for thoughtful holiday gifting. For the uninitiated, these are traditionally-made,small-production, site-specific, hands-off wines all fermented and aged in old barrel, which is the way of their ancestors; There are no tanks at all actually, which is not to say that tanks are bad; they’re just not traditional in the region. The resulting wines are famously light and fresh, but deep and concentrated at the same time, with plenty of acidity thanks to the slatey soils and steep exposition of the Saar vineyards.
Run, don’t walk, we only get a few bottles of these three wines each year.
